Brook School in The London Borough of Hackney was looking for to put a new face forward with a visible sign of change and improvement for pupils and the wider community, they employed SCABAL Architects to assist them in realising their vision for the future.
The process of renewing Brook Community Primary School involved designing new spaces and facilities for the pupils rather than refurbishing the existing Victorian building. A dilapidated classroom building was razed to make way for a new playground and the school building, dating from 1896, was reconfigured to include new classrooms in an old gymnasium and rose-tinted glass extension that hangs off the playground side of the building improving access to the classrooms on the first and second floors and providing lift access throughout the building.
